The perfect base layer is the one you forget you’re wearing. And for those longer — or even multiple — days in the mountains, the Merino Base layer is the foundation that will keep you warm, dry, and comfortable over time, so you can focus on the day ahead.

Crafted with premium Uruguayan Merino wool and produced by a family-owned factory in Portugal, it represents the perfect balance of innovation, tradition, and sustainability.

The Merino Base layer delivers the technical performance you need with the softness and versatility you’ll love — all year round.

If you’re reading this, you probably know that the right base layer can make or break a day on the mountain.

The Merino Base layer combines the technical capabilities of a high-performance base layer with timeless, minimalist styling. The natural stretch of Merino wool offers a snug fit that moves with you, while its moisture-wicking properties keep you dry during high-output efforts. With its clean design and neutral tones, it’s as comfortable layered under a shell on stormy backcountry tours as it is on its own for a cool-weather hike.

We’ll leave the merino vs synthetic debate to you, but when it comes to the former — this is as good as it gets, offering exceptional comfort and performance. Uruguayan Merino wool is prized for its unmatched softness, with fine fibers measuring just 19,5 microns, making it ideal for garments worn close to the skin. Raised on rolling grasslands using low-intensity, free-range farming methods, this wool is as ethical as it is luxurious. It’s entirely mulesing-free and sustainably sourced, reflecting the highest standards of animal welfare and environmental care.

The result is a base layer that excels in softness, durability, and adaptability. Lightweight and breathable, it regulates body temperature effortlessly across seasons, from cold winter ascents to warm spring tours. This versatility, combined with the timeless quality of Uruguayan Merino wool, ensures it performs just as well on long ski tours as it does during early-morning summer hikes.

  • Merino doesn’t need to be washed after every wear, as the wool is naturally antibacterial and odour-resistant. Hang garments outside to air between wears instead.

    • To Wash Merino Wool: Use a wool-specific detergent (avoid softener which coats the fibers and make them less breathable) and machine wash at 30ºC with a low spin. Remove promptly from the washing machine to reduce creasing. (Normal detergents contain enzymes that can break down the wool fiber and cause holes)
    • Do Not Tumble Dry: The heat from tumble driers can damage the natural performance of the merino wool fibers and cause fibers to shrink. Always line dry or preferably lay them flat to dry. Make sure to gently stretch/ re-shape your garment to its original shape, especially the collar/length will have contracted during wash. Never wring a merino garment out to get rid of excess moisture, this can damage the fiber.

To remove wrinkles, we recommend steaming at low temperature for the best and safest finish. Never iron, as ironing will crush/flatten the natural pile of the yarns.

Don’t forget to protect your garments from moths!
